Shawn McMahon is Technical Director, Climate & NBS Project Development for Aster Global Environmental Solutions.

Mr. McMahon has over 25 years of experience in forestry, blue carbon and wetlands, ecology and arboricultural assessments, natural resource management and GHG reduction/removal projects. He has been conducting validation and verification of Agriculture Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) carbon offset projects since 2007. He specializes in:

• GHG validations/verifications (Blue Carbon/ AFOLU)

  enhancement of carbon stocks

Mr. McMahon is a Certified Forester under the Society of American Foresters, Certified Lead Verifier for the Climate Action Reserve, Certified Lead Verifier for the CA Air Resources Board, and a Verified Carbon Standard AFOLU expert for Agricultural Land Management, Improved Forest Management, Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation, and Wetland Restoration and Conservation. Mr. McMahon was instrumental in Aster Global becoming one of the first entities approved to conduct GHG validations and/or verifications for the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), Climate Community, Biodiversity Alliance (CCBA), Sustainable Development Verified Impact Standard (SD VISta), California Air Resources Board (ARB), Climate Action Reserve (CAR), American Carbon Registry (ACR), Architecture for REDD+ Transactions (ART) The REDD+ Environmental Excellence Standard (TREES), World Bank’s Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF), and Plan Vivo. He has conducted validations/ verifications for 200+ Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) carbon sequestration, biodiversity and safeguard focused projects globally.

Mr. McMahon is responsible for corporate and team management, client coordination, performance of senior technical project management, and serving as the lead conducting third-party, independent GHG validations and verifications. He serves on various GHG working groups including Verra’s Blue Carbon Working Group and the Pacific Northwest Blue Carbon Working Group. Mr. McMahon leads lectures and seminars throughout the United States regarding sustainable resource topics, forest carbon project development and verification.
