Molly Shick is an agricultural specialist and an audit team member with Aster Global.
In this role, Ms. Shick utilizes her extensive experience as a row crop farmer and crop consultant to assist with and conduct desktop and field validation and verification of Agriculture, Forestry, and other Land Use (AFOLU) carbon offset projects including community, biodiversity, and sustainable development standards. Her work currently includes a focus on Agricultural Land Management (ALM) for Agricultural projects around the world.
As a field scientist, she brings unique and varied experiences as a farmer, crop consultant, and former crop insurance adjuster, and applies those experiences to facilitate onsite validation and verification projects. She has a strong focus and understanding of the agricultural components of validation and verification.
Prior to joining Aster Global, Ms. Shick operated a successful crop consulting business where she focused on soil health and performed intensive insects, disease, and invasive weed scouting, remediation, and recommendations for growers. She also worked on extensive water quality projects with The Ohio State University Extension Service. In her previous role as a crop insurance adjuster, she combined traditional evaluation methods with precision technology to assess crop damage and calculate the financial impact on a grower’s operation.
Ms. Shick actively farms 1300+ acres of corn and soybeans with her father in Ohio. Their farm is 100% no-till and frequently utilizes cover crops. This knowledge is beneficial in conducting audits as she has personal experience of the practice changes growers utilize in ALM, AFOLU projects. Ms. Shick has been featured in multiple farm magazines including Ohio Farmer and Successful Farmer. She and her father were presented the Ohio Master Farmer award, honoring stewardship on their land. She has been recognized by The Ohio State University as one of the Top 100 Women In Agriculture.
Her extensive experience utilizing technology for soil sampling and precision farming translates to her a part of her current role in conducting GIS reviews for the agricultural sector of Aster Global. This role aids in increased efficiency of validation and verification projects.
Ms. Shick visits hundreds of thousands of acres across multiple states and conducts dozens of grower interviews for validation and verification projects annually. Her personal experience as a farmer allows her to establish a connection and comfort level with project managers and their growers during audits, which is a critical part of validation and verifications.
