
Matthew Campbell is the Manager – Agricultural Land Management Validation and Verification with Aster Global. He is also an Environmental Scientist, and lead auditor. Mr. Campbell is responsible for all ALM Validation/Verification projects, with his primary focus on ensuring efficient and effective project reviews resulting in high-quality and timely deliverables for external clients.
In these roles, Mr. Campbell assists with and conducts desktop and field validation and verification of Agriculture, Forestry, and other Land Use (AFOLU) carbon offset projects including community, biodiversity, and sustainable development standards. His work currently includes a focus on Agricultural Land Management (ALM) projects around the world including Community and Biodiversity aspects and sustainable development goals. He has served as a lead auditor for Climate Action Reserve (CAR) soil enrichment projects, and for Agricultural Land Management projects through VCS.
As a field scientist, Mr. Campbell works to facilitate onsite validation and verification projects using best practice methods for conducting field audits. He has a strong focus on the social and biodiversity components of validation and verification as well as Agricultural Land Management.
Prior to joining Aster Global, Mr. Campbell held several positions which contributed to his overall knowledge of field sampling practices. As a Forestry Crew Lead, he coordinated large scale tree plantings in the Sierra Nevada where he also sampled forest inventory plots to monitor for growth. He also served as a Wildland Firefighter in the Western United States where he participated in active fire suppression activities as well as best practice preventive measures. Mr. Campbell has also worked as a multidisciplinary field biologist where he was a team member and team leader on projects related to wetland delineation, hydrologic monitoring, water quality sampling, vegetation surveys, benthic sampling, and fish surveys.
Most recently, Mr. Campbell has been actively leading several audit teams for projects in the Verified Carbon Standard, Climate Action Reserve (CAR), and Climate, Community, and Biodiversity Standards (CCB). He also has experience with the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM), California Air Resources Board (ARB), American Carbon Registry (ACR), and programs or methodologies.
