Leah Carter

Leah Carter Soil Scientist with Aster Global

Leah Carter is a soil scientist with Aster Global Environmental Solutions.

In this role, her duties include conducting soils work for carbon offset crediting projects, auditing carbon offset crediting projects, and soil mapping. She routinely works as a member of multiple audit teams on AFOLU GHG offset credit projects with a specific focus on quantitative review.

Most recently, Ms. Carter has worked on carbon offset validation/verification projects under a variety of protocols including Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), Climate, Community, and Biodiversity Standards (CCB), and Climate Action Reserve – Soil Enrichment Protocol (SEP). Specifically, Ms. Carter has worked as an audit team member on ALM projects utilizing VCS VM0042 and VM0032 methodologies, as well as the Climate Action Reserve's Soil Enrichment Protocol. Additionally, Ms. Carter has worked on soil components of VCS projects utilizing VM0007.

Prior to joining Aster Global, Ms. Carter worked for both the USDA’s Natural Resource Conservation Service and the United States Forest Service as a soil scientist. In these roles, she performed technical field studies to obtain, record, and analyze soil data critical to developing soil management and conservation practices. She routinely worked to bridge the gap between technical knowledge and practical application in the field.

Ms. Carter also has experience in the private sector where she conducted research, drafted and edited technical documents, and worked to create innovative software solutions related to helping clients meet ISO environmental and quality standards. Her experience in gathering, processing, analyzing, and reporting ecosystem data is directly relatable to client projects in her current role. She also has 5 years of experience working as a summer farmhand on organic farms in Colorado, Hawaii, and Italy.

Ms. Carter previously completed an Energy Institute Fellowship in the Cotrufo Lab at Colorado State University, and an Undergraduate Research Experience funded by the National Science Foundation in Sardinia, Italy, both related to carbon cycling in agricultural settings.
